The Fairlane built in Argentina was a large, luxurious car with a semi sporty design that Ford Motor Argentina introduced in 1968, with mass production starting a year later. It was a derivative of the American Ford Torino built on the four door sedan of the sixth generation American Fairlane, and it took the Fairlane name because IKA Renault had already registered Torino in Argentina. Production at the General Pacheco plant ended in 1982 after 29,602 units. The standard car had a six cylinder engine of 221 cubic inches and the 500 and LTD versions a 292 cubic inch V8, rare in a country of four and six cylinder cars. It complemented the popular Falcon as an exclusive car, served as a government and company fleet car and raced in the Turismo Carretera until the category banned it.
