For 2003 the Town Car platform underwent its largest update since its 1979 introduction, with the frame completely redesigned, and the redesign brought extensive but evolutionary changes to the exterior. The dual exhaust version of the 4.6 liter V8 became standard, retuned to 239 horsepower and shared with the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. Town Car badges were removed from the front fenders and returned to the decklid for the first time since 1997.
