After organizational difficulties Lincoln returned behind Cadillac in sales by 2000. The Town Car was in its third year as a third generation sedan with its sleeker curved design from 1998, built at Wixom Assembly alongside the Continental and LS, and the new mid size Lincoln LS, introduced June 1999 as a 2000 model, joined it in the Lincoln lineup, a rear wheel drive sedan. It was marketed by the Lincoln division of Ford Motor Company as a full size luxury sedan.
