The redesigned Town Car was launched on 5 October 1989 as a 1990 model, was named the 1990 Motor Trend Car of the Year and gave a significant sales boost that helped Lincoln achieve record total sales in 1990. Because of delays in the Modular engine program the 1990 Town Car kept the 150 horsepower 302 V8 and a four speed AOD automatic. Rear air suspension became standard, and dual front airbags were initially standard. It was assembled at Wixom Assembly in Michigan alongside the Continental, Mark VII and Mark VIII.
