For 1984 gas pressurized shocks were added to the Town Car, which was the lightest full size Lincoln in forty years on the Panther chassis, shorter and with better suspension geometry and power steering with a turning diameter reduced by over 8 feet compared with the 1979 Continental. The Mark VII replaced the Mark VI the same year, a near complete break from Mark tradition. It was built at Wixom Assembly in Michigan alongside the Lincoln Continental.
