The Continental Mark VII was introduced in August 1983 for the 1984 model year, a rear wheel drive luxury coupe that shared the Ford Fox platform with the Thunderbird, Mercury Cougar and Continental. Ford had petitioned for a rule change allowing replaceable bulb headlamps, which was enacted in summer 1983 in time for the car. A BMW designed turbodiesel was available in 1984 and 1985, and an in car telephone was an option at 2,995 dollars.
