The Series III arrived in 1971 carrying over the bodies and engines of the IIA, with station wagons and One Ton trucks still on offer, and looked so similar that it is often hard to spot. Its main differences were a plastic grille in place of the metal one, a higher compression ratio of 8 to 1 on the 2.25-litre engine for slightly more power, headlights in the wings, and, for the first time, synchromesh on all four gears. It became the most common Series model.
