The Stage 1 V8, a Series III with the 3.5-litre Rover V8 petrol engine, went into production in 1979 and was built until 1985. The engine was detuned to 91 horsepower from the 135 of the Range Rover, and the vehicle also took over the Range Rover's constant four-wheel-drive system, making it the only Series III with permanent four-wheel drive. It was normally a long-wheelbase model and mostly exported. In Australia the Land Rover GAME model was discontinued in 1979.
