1978 Land Rover Series

Automobiles

A new company, Land Rover Limited, was set up in 1978 by British Leyland as a separate subsidiary, so from this year the Series III came from a business carrying its own name rather than being a Rover division product. The hyphen that had always appeared in Land-Rover on the logo began to be dropped. The Stage 1 V8 was due to follow in 1979, but in 1978 the home market still bought the Series III with its four-cylinder 2.25-litre engine, which was thought sufficient and rather more economical than a V8.
