In 1975 British Leyland collapsed and was nationalised, and the Ryder Report that followed recommended that Land Rover should be separated from Rover and run as its own company, inside a new commercial-vehicle arm known as the Land Rover Leyland Group. The Series III, meanwhile, was in full production and the One Ton 109-inch model, a rare utility vehicle favoured by breakdown and utility firms, was still being built.
