By 1972 the Series III was a settled product. The simple metal dashboard of earlier Land Rovers had been replaced by a moulded plastic dash following early 1970s trends in safety and materials, and the instrument cluster, once in the middle, now sat in front of the driver. Long-wheelbase versions carried the stronger Salisbury rear axle as standard, and the engine range was the 2.25-litre petrol and diesel carried over from the IIA.
