The 2002 facelift of the Series II Discovery brought new pocketed headlamps matching the Range Rover and the facelifted Freelander, and redesigned rear lamps with the indicators moved from the bumper to the high-mounted side fixtures. The locking centre differential was fully reinstated, with its linkage, as a cost option and standard on high-specification vehicles, after customers asked for it. In this year the Discovery II was the best-selling Land Rover in the United States, ahead of the Freelander.
