1985 Land Rover Defender

Automobiles

In 1985 the petrol engines were upgraded with an enlarged four-cylinder unit of 83 horsepower sharing its block and cooling system with the diesel, and the 114 horsepower V8 was extended to the Ninety, which meant a production short-wheelbase Land Rover had V8 power for the first time. Both V8 models gained a new five-speed LT85 manual gearbox. The extra-length One Two Seven arrived, and the British Army began replacing its Series III fleet with One Tens that year, using the 2.5-litre naturally aspirated diesel.
