The 1990 Wrangler used the 2.5 liter AMC four cylinder or the optional 4.2 liter AMC six, the last model year for the 4.2 before a fuel injected 4.0 liter replaced it from 1991. It was built in Brampton, Ontario, and the Islander package was in its third year. The NP231 transfer case replaced the NP207 of 1987, and the Wrangler was sold in the base, Laredo and Sahara trims with the Islander option package available.
