The 2016 Patriot continued as the compact crossover SUV, essentially unchanged, and still selling well. It was assembled at Chrysler's Belvidere, Illinois assembly plant alongside the Compass. The Patriot offered two four wheel drive systems, both electronically controlled, the standard Freedom Drive I and the optional Freedom Drive II. Production was discontinued in December 2016, with the remainder of the fleet marketed as 2017 models.
