The Jeep Patriot underwent many changes in trims or models for the 2014 model year; however, 2014 was the first model year that Freedom Drive I Patriots came with a Hyundai 6 speed automatic transmission instead of the CVT. The Patriot continued as a compact crossover SUV built at the Belvidere, Illinois assembly plant alongside the Compass, in its eighth model year. It was a front wheel drive or four wheel drive crossover.
