Honda introduced the first generation Today, chassis JW1, as a three door hatchback during September 1985, and at first it was sold as a light commercial van only. A Gold Wing derived water cooled 545 cc Honda EH two cylinder OHC engine with 31 PS, the same as in the Acty kei truck, powered it, and buyers first had a choice of a four speed manual or a two speed semi automatic Hondamatic. With the Today Honda came back to producing kei cars.
