For 2008 the Honda S2000 came in more than a single trim level in the United States for the first time. Alongside the base model came the Club Racer, with reduced weight, fewer amenities and more performance, a lower ratio steering rack, a revised exhaust, a body kit that claimed to reduce the coefficient of lift by 70 to 80 percent, and a Berlina Black hard top in place of the folding soft top. Honda made 668 Club Racers for the 2008 model year. Japan received the Type S edition for 2008 and 2009, of which 827 were made in 2008. US sales fell to 2,538 units in 2008, a 74 percent decline from the 2002 peak.
