The AP1 is the first version of the Honda S2000, a roadster that debuted in 1999, ahead of the 2000 model year, and was assembled through 2003 at Honda's Takanezawa factory. It has a front mid engine, rear wheel drive layout with a 1,997 cc inline four cylinder DOHC VTEC engine, codenamed F20C, a six speed manual transmission and a Torsen limited slip differential, and it achieved what Honda claimed as the highest specific output of a naturally aspirated production engine. The Type V steering option for Japan arrived in 2000. Outside North America the facelifted car kept the AP1 designation after 2003. Each model year of this variant has its own page.
