Honda chose in 1992 to build a track focused NSX that gave up the usual creature comforts for better performance, the NSX Type R or NSX-R. Honda removed sound deadening, the audio system, spare tyre, air conditioning and traction control, fitted Recaro carbon kevlar seats and lighter Enkei wheels, and saved approximately 120 kg. From late November 1992, Honda built a limited run of 483 NSX-R cars sold only in the Japanese home market.
