Honda unveiled a distinct HR-V for North America on 4 April 2022, and it went on sale on 7 June 2022 as a 2023 model. It is built on the Honda Architecture platform shared with the eleventh generation Civic and counts as a compact crossover SUV; outside North America it was sold as the ZR-V and HR-V in China and as the ZR-V in Europe, placed between the global HR-V and the CR-V. The global third generation HR-V had been on sale in Japan as the Vezel since April 2021.
