The Honda FCX Clarity won the World Green Car of the Year in 2009. Roughly 10 FCX Claritys were on lease in Japan in 2009 and another 10 in Europe, and a lack of hydrogen filling stations explained the low number of cars in the U.S. A 2009 report put the cost of hydrogen made from natural gas in California at around 5 to 10 dollars a kilogram, and after compression and transport it sells for 12 to 14 dollars a kilogram, though fuel cell cars are twice as efficient as similar gasoline models.
