Honda said in April 2016 that a Clarity Plug-In would come in 2017 along with a Clarity Battery Electric, each drivetrain set apart by its own hero color and different front styling. Retail deliveries of the 2017 Clarity Fuel Cell started in Southern California in December 2016, with a range of 366 miles, the longest EPA rating for any zero emissions vehicle in the U.S. until the Hyundai Nexo arrived in early 2019. As of 2025, the Honda Clarity (2016 to 2021) is the last known production car to feature fixed rear wheel skirts.
