The Civic Hatchback came to North America for the 2017 model year, on sale from September 2016 and sourced from the United Kingdom, the first time a hatchback had been offered there since the seventh generation. A prototype of the Civic Si appeared in November 2016, with a 1.5 litre turbo engine and only a 6-speed manual, and the Type R hatchback went on sale in 2017 with a 2.0 litre turbo engine. Japan revived the Civic in 2017 after a seven-year hiatus, on sale from 29 September 2017.
