The 1988 model year is the first of the fourth-generation Civic. It had a new double-wishbone front suspension and an independent rear suspension, a wheelbase increased to 250 centimetres, and a redesigned body with a lower hood line and more glass for less drag. All North American Civics were fuel injected, unlike those in other markets, and the Si was initially not offered. The three variants were a three-door hatchback, a four-door sedan and a five-door wagon, and Car and Driver put the Civic on its 10Best list this year.
