1975 Honda Civic

Automobiles

The CVCC engine debuted in the 1975 Civic. The Compound Vortex Controlled Combustion design was offered alongside the standard engine as a 1488 cc, 53 hp option, and it removed the need for catalytic converters or unleaded fuel to meet changing emissions standards. Because of California's stricter emissions rules, only the CVCC-powered Civic could be sold in that state. In October 1975 the Japanese 1200 RS gave way to the 1500 RSL and GTL with a CVCC engine. The 1975 model year also starts the span of Civics covered by the Federal Trade Commission consent decree over rusted fenders.
