On 31 October 1986 the second generation Honda City was introduced with the slogan City of Talent in Japan, available at the Honda Clio dealerships, which enabled Clio locations to sell economically priced vehicles normally found at Honda Primo. The major change in appearance was called the Crouching form, a low and wide design that contributed to a lighter weight, with 680 kg for the basic trim. The type D12A, a 16 valve SOHC straight four of 1.2 liters making 76 PS at 6,500 rpm, was the first of Honda's D series engines.
