The Peugeot 306 is a small family car that the French maker Peugeot built from 1993 to 2002, replacing the 309 and replaced in turn by the 307 in 2001, with cabriolet and estate versions continuing until 2002. It was developed between 1990 and 1992 for a launch in February 1993 and was released as a three and five door hatchback, with saloon and cabriolet models arriving a year later. Mechanically it is almost identical to the Citroën ZX, sharing its floorpan and core structure, and its Peugeot 205 derived Pininfarina styling made it the more successful of the two. The engines were four-cylinder petrol units from 1.1 to 2.0 litres, with the 1.1 dropped quickly, and XUD diesels of 1769 cc and later 1905 cc. Sevel built versions in Argentina from 1996 to 2002.
