The Mazda Kiyora is a concept car that Mazda first showed at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, a design study for a next-generation urban subcompact to replace the Mazda2 and an engineering study for a high-efficiency gasoline engine. Its name roughly means pure, and its droplet shape belongs to the water-themed Nagare series of concepts, produced jointly by Mazda's Japanese operations and its European branch for young city drivers. The hatchback has two transparent plastic butterfly doors, a glass roof with solar cells and a rainwater collection system, a carbon fibre body that is 100 kg lighter than the Mazda2, and a drag coefficient 10 percent lower. Its planned powertrain was a 1.3 litre direct-injection four-cylinder gasoline engine with i-stop start-stop and a six-speed automatic, aiming at 32 km per litre and no more than 90 g/km of CO2.
