The second generation of the Lancia Delta is a mid sized segment C car built by Lancia from 1993 to 2000 at the Alfa Romeo plant in Pomigliano d'Arco and, from September 1994, at the Fiat plant in Rivalta. Project 836 was built on the platform of the Fiat Tipo and was first meant to be called Beta, but the rally successes of the first Delta led Lancia to reuse the name. Presented at the Geneva show in March 1993 after an investment of 700 billion lire, it reached Italian dealers in May 1993 as a five door car with 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre engines, the two litre in naturally aspirated and turbo form. A three door version called HPE followed at the 1995 Geneva show, with a 2.0 litre petrol engine and a 1.9 litre turbodiesel. The third generation Delta replaced it in 2008.
