The second generation of the Chevrolet Spark, designated the M200 and later the M250, was a substantial revision of the Daewoo Matiz introduced in 2005. Its new upper body, again based on a design by Italdesign Giugiaro, was previewed by the Chevrolet M3X concept shown at the 2004 Paris Motor Show, and the interior gained a centre mounted instrument cluster. The platform changed to a twist beam rear suspension with cast front lower control arms, and the drag coefficient fell. In 2008 the 800 cc engine was revised to fall below 120 g/km of carbon dioxide, which qualified it for the UK road tax band of 35 pounds. In Europe it was sold as the Chevrolet Matiz and Chevrolet Spark, and in South Korea it became the Matiz Classic once the third generation arrived. Production of the Matiz range reached 2.3 million worldwide in its first ten years.
