From 1993 fuel injection became available on the GL version of the Versailles as well as on the top Ghia model. The GL came with a Volkswagen 1.8 litre engine, or an optional 2.0 litre, in petrol or alcohol forms, while the Ghia had only the 2.0 litre engine. A station wagon version was sold as the Ford Royale, and in Argentina the car was called the Galaxy. The Versailles was a Ford badged Volkswagen Santana sold in Brazil and Argentina during the Autolatina joint venture.
