The Versailles took over from the Del Rey in 1991, for the 1992 model year, as a Ford badged Volkswagen Santana built in the Autolatina joint venture of Ford and Volkswagen. It replaced the Del Rey in Brazil and the locally built Sierra in Argentina, and had a station wagon called the Royale. A station wagon version was sold as the Ford Royale, and in Argentina the car was called the Galaxy. The Versailles was a Ford badged Volkswagen Santana sold in Brazil and Argentina during the Autolatina joint venture.
