The Verona was facelifted in 1996 with a new hood and an oval grille, and production shifted from São Bernardo do Campo to Pacheco in Argentina, where it was sold as the Ford Orion. The sixth generation Escort went on sale that year and replaced the Verona in Brazil with the Escort sedan. The Verona was a small family car that Ford of Brazil built with Volkswagen through their Autolatina joint venture. It was sold alongside the Volkswagen Apollo, a badge engineered twin, and it was based on the European Ford Orion.
