In 1995 the 1.8 litre Verona gained electronic fuel injection, the LX version was renamed the GL, and the Ghia received a digital electronic fuel injection system from FIC, the division of Ford in Brazil that made electronic components, replacing the earlier unit. It was sold alongside the Volkswagen Apollo, a badge engineered twin, and it was based on the European Ford Orion. The Verona was a small family car that Ford of Brazil built with Volkswagen through their Autolatina joint venture.
