In 1991 the Verona rose to sixth place among the best selling cars in Brazil and the Apollo to eighth. The LX had the 1.6 litre CHT engine and the GLX the 1.8 litre Volkswagen AP engine, with petrol and ethanol versions, and the Verona 1.8 had been timed at 168 kilometres per hour. It was sold alongside the Volkswagen Apollo, a badge engineered twin, and it was based on the European Ford Orion. The Verona was a small family car that Ford of Brazil built with Volkswagen through their Autolatina joint venture.
