For 1972 the Torino was redesigned using many characteristics of the previous generation and switched to body on frame construction from unit construction, with separate wheelbases of 114 inches for two doors and 118 inches for four doors and wagons. The line was cut from fourteen models to nine, and front disc brakes were standard. It became the best selling intermediate of 1972. The last Torino was built in 1976. Its model years run from 1972 to 1976.
