The 1974 model year saw more extensive revisions, since government regulations now required the rear bumpers to meet the 5 mile per hour standard, so all Torinos had the rear bumper and taillight panel redesigned. The Gran Torino Sport lost its SportsRoof fastback roofline and the Gran Torino Elite debuted, and luxury options such as a leather wrapped wheel and electric sunroof were added. Ford produced 426,086 units, including 96,604 Gran Torino Elites.
