The most obvious change for 1973 was a new front fascia required to meet federal regulations demanding that cars built after 1 September 1972 withstand a 5 mile per hour strike to the front. A large square energy absorbing bumper replaced the nearly body fitting chrome bumper of 1972. The model line up increased to eleven from nine, bench seats reverted to low backs and rear drum brakes grew to 2.5 inches wide, and engine power was slightly lower.
