For 1970 the Torino became the primary model and the Fairlane a sub series of it, in a completely new body with coke bottle styling that was longer, lower and wider than the 1969 cars, and the lineup initially featured thirteen models. A four door pillarless hardtop was new. The Falcon compact continued for the first half of the model year as the 1970.5 Falcon. The Torino was selected as the Motor Trend Car of the Year for 1970.
