The Territory was launched in 2004 after the Ford R7 concept SUV revealed at the 2002 Australian International Motor Show, which was so well received that Ford fast tracked its development two years later into the production Territory. It was the first SUV to win the Australian Wheels Car of the Year in 2004. At launch the SX range comprised the TX base package, the TS family safety package and the Ghia luxury package, and an Alpine DVD entertainment system with a 10.2 inch screen was offered for rear passengers.
