The redesigned 1992 Taurus kept the DN5 platform but replaced every body panel except the doors, gaining a more rounded roofline, slimmer headlights and a new rear. Over 410,000 were sold for the 1992 model year and the Taurus overtook the Honda Accord as the best selling car in the United States. It was offered in L, GL and LX models, and the L was dropped after this one year. The new generation introduced flexible fuel powertrains, standard dual airbags and a standard V6.
