The fourth generation Taurus was mechanically similar to the car before it but had major revisions to the sedan body, to tone down the controversial styling of 1996 and add interior room. It was the last Taurus derived from the 1986 design, lost the best selling position to the Accord and Camry in 1997, and by 2005 had dropped out of the top ten. The wagon was dropped in 2004, and Ford replaced the Taurus with the Five Hundred and Fusion. Each model year has its own page.
