The Taurus was withdrawn after the 2007 model year, with production having ended in October 2006, and it was replaced in the Ford line by the Five Hundred and the Fusion. New Ford CEO Alan Mulally was perplexed by the decision, recalling that he asked how it could go away when it was the best selling car in America. In mid 2007 revamped versions of the Five Hundred and Freestyle were unveiled with the Taurus and Taurus X names.
