The Taurus was redesigned for 2000, keeping the mechanicals of its predecessor but with major revisions to the sedan bodyshell to alter its controversial styling and add interior room. It was offered as a four door sedan and a five door station wagon. The Mercury Sable twin was redesigned as well for 2000, with a new front and rear fascia, wheels, a taller roof and trunk, and a new interior, but shared its mechanical parts with the Taurus.
