The first Taurus was a front wheel drive sedan and wagon launched on 26 December 1985 as a 1986 model. Its rounded, aerodynamic styling started a trend across the American industry, and it is credited with saving Ford from bankruptcy after three billion dollars of development by Team Taurus. More than a million were sold by 1989. It came with a Mercury Sable twin, and the Taurus SHO, which used a Yamaha V6, joined it from the 1989 model year. Each model year has its own page.
