The Taurus SHO of the next generation was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show in 2009 and went on sale in the summer of that year. The 2009 model year was the last of the fifth generation Taurus, and also the last for its Mercury Sable twin, because Sable production ended after 2009 with the closure of the Mercury brand. The 2008 and 2009 cars had a water pump issue that could ruin the engine. The D3 architecture it used had come from the Volvo derived Five Hundred.
