The fifth generation Super Duty was revealed in September 2022, so 2022 was the last year of the fourth generation, in which an F 550 hydrogen fuel cell prototype was being built with Southern California Gas under the Department of Energy SuperTruck 3 program. The Super Duty is a dedicated heavy duty variant of the F Series, sold above the F 150 with Power Stroke diesel engines as an option. Ford assembles the trucks at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake.
