The RS200 became obsolete after only one full year of competition, when an accident at Rally Portugal set off a chain reaction and the FIA abolished Group B after the 1986 season. Ford had planned an Evolution for 1987, and it produced the twenty Evolution road cars anyway. The RS200 was a road going car built so that Ford could enter a competition car in Group B rallying. Its body was made by a British fibreglass specialist, with a mid mounted turbocharged engine and four wheel drive.
