In 1918 Ford supplied more than 12,000 Model TT trucks to the US Army in the First World War, where the Model T chassis was standardized in the light class. There was no civilian production of the Model Ts between 1917 and 1918. The Model TT was sold as a chassis with the buyer supplying the body, and it was widely used by the US and British armies as a cargo truck and ambulance. It was often fitted with an accessory gearbox for hill climbing.
